Setting science-based climate targets

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global initiative that helps companies set climate targets in line with the latest climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement. For many organisations, SBTi has become an important framework for building credibility in their climate work and meeting growing expectations from customers, investors, financiers, and other stakeholders.

BDO supports companies through the entire process of developing and implementing science-based climate targets, based on the organisation's emissions profile, value chain, and long-term strategy. This work often includes mapping and calculating greenhouse gas emissions, analysing emissions drivers, and developing short- and long-term climate targets aligned with the Paris Agreement and SBTi criteria.

In many engagements, we also work to identify relevant transition measures and build structures for monitoring, governance, and implementation of climate targets and transition plans. The focus isn't just on setting targets, but on creating the conditions needed to translate those targets into practice and integrate them into the business over time.

The work is tailored to the organisation's level of maturity and needs and can range from high-level strategic support to more detailed analyses of areas such as Scope 3 emissions, the supply chain, investments, and climate-related business risks.
