The sustainability field today covers a broad spectrum of issues, from climate and environment to social matters, governance and strategy, reporting and regulatory requirements. For most organisations, it is neither realistic nor effective to expect a single person to master all these areas in depth simultaneously. At the same time, sustainability work is not something driven solely by the sustainability function. A sustainable company is built by integrating sustainability into operations and factoring it into decisions at multiple levels of the organisation. Those responsible for developing and coordinating sustainability efforts such as a Chief Sustainability Officer or equivalent role therefore often face strategic, operational, and regulatory challenges all at once.
This is where BDO comes in as a partner. We support our customers complex issues, serve as an experienced sounding board in new or challenging situations, and can quickly step in when internal resources or time fall short. We also help drive larger projects to completion, whether it involves reporting, analysis, strategy, or implementation. Our ambition is to be a long-term and accessible partner that is easy to reach when needs arise and able to contribute the right expertise at the right time.
BDO operates across all industries, sizes, ownership structures, and company forms. Since different legislation places different requirements on companies of varying sizes and categories, we help customers make informed decisions and relevant priorities. We frequently take on the task of integrating sustainability into the overall strategy, governance, and business model.
We support companies in analysing sustainability-related risks and opportunities linked to their business model, understanding stakeholder needs, and identifying and prioritizing material areas to strengthen the organisation's long-term development and resilience. In this way, sustainability work becomes a natural part of the customer's growth journey.
We have a strong focus on measurability and know from experience that sustainable companies find it easier to grow. In our work, it is important to understand both the current situation and how risks and opportunities may evolve in the short, medium, and long term. An issue that poses no clear risk today may become business-critical further down the line, while existing risks can diminish or disappear entirely through the right strategy, governance, and measures.
That is why we do not only work to identify today's challenges, but also to help companies understand how the external environment is changing, how it may affect the business, and how the organisation can be positioned to remain sustainable and competitive in the long run.
BDO is represented in over 870 offices across approximately 170 countries, giving us a strong global presence combined with local expertise. Through our international network, we can effectively carry out assignments in large parts of the world where regulations permit, without relying on extensive travel. This enables, for example, site visits, reviews, and analyses of local operations and processes at short notice, while ensuring high quality, strong local understanding, and resource-efficient delivery. The team working with our client naturally continues to maintain close and personal contact, even when a team elsewhere in the world is brought in to assist.
BDO helps companies translate increasing demands from investors, customers, legislation, and other stakeholders into practical, value-creating sustainability work. We tailor our support to the organisation's industry, level of maturity, and ambition, and can contribute both strategically and operationally throughout the entire process: from analysis and data collection to governance, reporting, quality assurance, and preparation for review.
