Sustainability at BDO

Sustainability as part of business

Sustainability is a central part of our business strategy. As an auditing and accounting firm, we have a special responsibility to contribute to a sustainable business environment, where quality, long-term perspective, and transparency form the basis of trust.

We work to create lasting value for our customers, our employees, and society at large. This means that sustainability permeates everything we do – from how we develop our services and ways of working, to how we drive our operations forward.

”We are proud of what we have achieved, but our strength lies in our forward-looking vision. By making sustainability an integrated part of our business, we create value that lasts – for our customers, our employees and society at large.”

Our sustainability work is divided into three areas:

01.    Sustainable business

As advisers and accountants, we contribute to a business community that is robust, transparent and sustainable. We do this by combining the high quality of our deliverables with a business model that that focuses on long term perspective and trust.

  • Business model and customers – We put our customers’ long-term success at the centre of our focus and help them navigate a changing world, including by leveraging digitalisation, AI, and automation in combination with strong relationships and high expertise.
  • Quality, independence and risk management – We have a clear structure to ensure quality and independence in everything we do and contribute to mitigating risks that threaten sustainable development.
  • Global collaboration – Through our international network, we work together to raise the quality in the industry, collaborate, and drive development at a global level.

02. Employees and culture

Our employees are our greatest asset. We want to create a work environment where people thrive, develop and can perform over time.

  • Engagement and loyalty – We measure and track our key metrics for employee engagement and continuously work to become an even better workplace. Everyone has the opportunity to grow and develop their skills, while maintaining a healthy work-life balance so that everyone can perform over time.
  • Diversity and inclusion – We foster a culture where all perspectives are valued. For us, inclusion means collaborating, supporting each other, and giving everyone the opportunity to contribute with their unique strengths.
  • Social commitment – We take responsibility beyond our own business operations through social initiatives that strengthen the communities in which we operate.

03.    Environment and climate

We will reduce our emissions in line with the Paris Agreement and achieve net zero by 2050 at the latest. Our climate targets are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

  • Business trips - We reduce our carbon footprint by traveling consciously and using digital meetings to a greater extent. All business trips are planned and conducted in a cost- and environmentally efficient manner, focusing on public transportation, carpooling, and alternative modes of travel, with flights used only when no reasonable alternatives exist.
  • Our offices – We have an active agenda to reduce energy usage at our offices. We also work with a circular economy model to reduce waste and resource usage. In practice, this means smarter purchasing, longer product lifespans and efficient recycling.
  • Yearly monitoring – Through climate reporting and continuous monitoring, we ensure that we are moving in the right direction.

Our sustainability work is long-term and a core part of our business. By combining sustainable business practices, care for our employees, and clear climate responsibility, we want to contribute to a stronger and more sustainable society.

Towards Net Zero 2050

We take responsibility for the future with scientifically validated climate goals for 2030 and 2050.
